Elizabeth MacBride – Award-Winning Journalist and Author of
Elizabeth MacBride is an award-winning journalist, author and expert in finance, investing and technology. She is the author most recently of *Little Book of Robo Investing: How To Make Money While You Sleep*, the latest in the acclaimed Wiley series (publication: March 2024). One of the founding team members of Wealthfront, the first online financial advisor, Elizabeth crafted the language to launch the robo investment movement. She is an advocate for a fair, accessible financial system and policies that support women’s economic power. She has written or edited for *Quartz*, *Forbes* Magazine, *Atlantic*, Stanford GSB, CNBC, *BBC*, *Newsweek* and many others. Her work as a journalist has been translated into languages including Arabic, Turkish and Armenian. She also founded *New Builders Dispatch*, a web publication covering innovation and finance beyond Silicon Valley, launched in Feb. 2019 with support from the Kauffman Foundation and Walton Family Foundation. With venture capitalist Seth Levine, she is co-author of *The New Builders*. Called a “gamechanger,” and endorsed by AOL Founder Steve Case and entrepreneur Tyra Banks, it looks at entrepreneurship in America through a new inclusive lens, making the case that the United States needs to restore this critical part of the economy.
Dr. Andre Laplume – Full Professor in Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the Ted Rogers School of Management and Co-author of
Dr. Andre Laplume co-author of Spinout Ventures, is a Full Professor in Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the Ted Rogers School of Management, which is part of Toronto Metropolitan University. Laplume researches the intersections where new entrants and incumbent firms meet with the aim of breaking down the barriers facing entrepreneurs, while helping managers deal with entrepreneurial ambitions in their organizations. His research has appeared in top journals like Human Relations, Journal of International Business Studies, and Journal of Business Research, among others. He received his PhD in Management from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and spent seven years at Michigan Tech, teaching in its MBA program. Earlier, Laplume was a business and information technology consultant, helping clients integrate businesses and automate units. He is a frequent judge at entrepreneurship pitch competitions and an experienced entrepreneur, having launched a startup while in Michigan. As a Graduate Program Director and a Professor of Management at Ted Rogers School of Management – Toronto Metropolitan University, I oversee the academic quality and delivery of the Master of Science in Management program, and teach courses on technology and innovation management, strategic management, and entrepreneurship.
